Selecting the best dog food for your mutt can be a time-consuming and frustrating task. Because there are so many choices on the shelves, your head just spins. Should you get the protein-heavy one? But what about your mutt’s other nutritional needs?

Maybe you should try making your dog’s food at home instead? Now that’s an idea. While UC Davis researchers have found faults in many dog food recipes, don’t let that stump you. Researchers said that homemade dog food is actually good for your canine companion. You only need to find recipes that contain the right amount of concentration of essential nutrients for your pet dog.

Another good thing about homemade dog food recipes is that you can customize—you can choose what goes in there and even tailor it to your dog’s preferences.

Are you ready to get cooking now? Here are 3 delicious, lip-smacking, dog food recipes to try at home:

Bone Broth

On colder days, we, humans would have a craving for a hot and delicious broth to warm us up. The same goes for dogs too. While they enjoy gnawing meat off bones best, they do like to lap up some nice broth off their bowl too. It also packs a variety of nutrients and minerals in a way that can be easily absorbed by your dog.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
    • This ingredient contains manganese, copper, zinc, potassium, iron, calcium, manganese, sodium, and phosphorus. It can also deter parasites because of its antibacterial and antifungal properties, and even helps with digestion.
  • 1 kg organic bones
    • Depending on what kind of animal bone you choose, you can get Omega 3 and conjugated linoleic acid which has anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties. There are also vitamins such as A and E.

Other things you need:

  • Slow pressure cooker

Method:

  1. Bring out your organic bones. If they’re frozen, there is no need to thaw them.
  2. Place them inside the pressure cooker.
  3. Pour the apple cider vinegar over the bones.
  4. Add water enough to cover the bones.
  5. Set your pressure cooker to four hours.

When the broth is done, heap a healthy serving on your canine’s bowl. Wait for it to cool down a littler or else your pooch’s tongue will get scalded. Then you can serve it in your pet’s little house or inside your own home. You can also freeze the rest to serve for later!

On another note; discard the bones! You should never give cooked bones to your dog.

Frozen Peanut Butter and Yogurt Treat

After a hot day or an hour of exercise, give your dog a healthy yet delicious treat! It’s great to keep your dog healthy with regular dog food, but they appreciate some yummy treats too.

Ingredients:

  • 32 oz. vanilla yogurt
    • Yogurt will give your dog calcium, protein, sodium, potassium, and vitamins A, B12, C, and D, and many other essential vitamins and nutrients.
  • 1 cup peanut butter
    • Peanut butter may be seen as a bad snack, but it has vitamins E, B3, and B6 and minerals like magnesium, copper, and manganese.

Other things you need:

  • Cupcake papers or ice cube trays

Method:

  1. Melt the peanut butter in the microwave. Make sure to use a microwave-safe bowl.
  2. Combine the yogurt with the peanut butter.
  3. When done combining well, place a dollop of mixture in each cupcake paper. If you don’t have cupcake papers, you can just use your ice cube trays.
  4. Freeze.

And voila! You have a great treat to offer to your beloved dog! It’s also a good way to earn a show of appreciation from your furry best friend.

  • 50 g dry bread crumbs
    • White bread crumbs have folate, vitamin K, choline, and a lot of minerals like sodium, calcium, and potassium.
  • 60 mL vegetable oil
    • If you’re using canola, then you are guaranteed to give your pooch some vitamin E and vitamin K and Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids.

Other things you need:

  • 500 g brown rice (substitute for oatmeal if you don’t have it)
  • Frying pan
  • Water

Method:

  1. With the vegetable oil, brown the meat over medium heat in a frying pan.
  2. Stir beef frequently.
  3. Remove pan from heat and add the other ingredients.
